This year for the second time partners were invited to our annual dinner. The night was a huge success. The event took place in Wynn's hotel in the heart of Dublin town, just a stone's throw away from Temple Bar. The food was outstanding. Every person had three choices to choose from, steak, fish and chicken.

We received an indepth talk from Tom Mountain about JOE's Bridge and the events that took place on the 10th September 1944 when The Irish Guards Battle Group commanded by Lieutenant Colonel J.O.E Vandeleur captured the bridge across the Meuse-Escaut Canal after they  launched a combined infantry-tank assault with artillery support.

The bridge became known as 'Joe's Bridge', after Lt-Col Vandeleur, Irish Guards.
The majority of you have seen the film, A BRIDGE TOO FAR. screened in June 1977 about Operation Market Garden.
Michael Caine played J.O.E Vandeleur in that movie.

We had our various raffles. The top prize was won by a chelsea pensioner who attended the dinner.  It was a sterling silver Irish Guards wolfhound with a 9ct gold dog collar, crafted by one of our very own members

We finished off the night with the 60's, 70's and 80's music supplied by the resident D.J.  The battle-hardened few continued into the early hours, rejoicing, whilst telling a tale or two. We hope to  see you next year at our annual dinner.

Our Annual branch Dinner on the 3rd October 2020 has been postponed until next year.

This is due to the current pandemic.

The Next Dinner will take place on Saturday 2nd October 2021.
